I speak with an unwanted accent which I cannot understand where and how is it ever possible for me to pick up. I'm not talking about the American or British accent cos I wouldn't mind having them of course but its...how do I put it? Very obscure and non local accent coming from somewhere far north or down south. It could have been something from the malay archipelago mixed orang utan sounds I don't know. Maybe its my voice.
Its very annoying when I ask people questions, or meet people for the first time and all they ever ask me was whether I'm a Singaporean. DUH. I look like that not obvious meh?
Anyways, I met this guy today and he speaks with an American accent. Its kinda weird because for one, I know he is a Singaporean, and he is definitely not a mixed. So that left me wondering whether he studied abroad, or his parents speak like that with him at home. I have absolutely no idea but all I can say is I've so many questions unanswered the whole time we were talking and even after we parted ways. I mean hes a nice friend and all the whatnots but just where did he get the accent from?!
Ok not directing the question at anybody, but how do you feel of people faking accents in general? To be honest, I'm quite turned off by people doing obvious fake and cheap caucasian accents. Usually I just roll my eyes and turn away from these people, avoid talking to them cos we are just different. I don't fake any any accents. But you gotta give credit to them for being such a douche. I don't see any point in faking some Caucasian accents. I mean if they are so into the accents thing, why don't they try Indian or Chinese accents? They are quite unique to me tho.
If they are just looking for a sense of superiority faking some Caucasian accents when they talk to their asian counterparts, I think its just plain pathetic. Just speak simple and coherent English which everyone understands, isn't that enough? Same goes to those who add rocketscience-martian-flying-doublerainbows-epic vocab to their daily speak. P l e a s e o m g just avoid me.
All's friendly
